Potholes?! What to do when you hit one.

Hitting a pothole can cause bent wheel rims, internal tyre damage, alignment problems, not to mention shock and strut issues depending on the severity of the impact.

With this unrelenting wet weather,  we have seen an extraordinary increase in pot holes in our roads. According to the SMH, the council areas with the highest number of tyre callouts from pot holes  were Blacktown, the Central Coast and the Northern Beaches.

Hitting a pothole doesn't necessarily mean you'll puncture your tyres or damage your vehicle, but it is something that can often times be underestimated, causing  unexpected expenses down the line. Assess the tyre damage (if any):
Sometimes you can get lucky. Other times,  you just can't avoid the pot holes quick enough. 

Damage to look for:
- Cuts to the tyre
- Bubbles or blisters in the tyre wall
- Damaged wheel rim

What to do:
Most cars now have run flats,  meaning you can run it flat to the nearest tyre shop or even earlier - contact Auto Outsource to organise new tyres for your car and have them installed for you.

Things to do next:
• Get a wheel alignment done. 
• Change Tyres. Don't just change one tyre with a different model. If you have to, as the bare minimum, change both front tyres to the same model so they match. This is important because different tyre treads and sizes can be very dangerous and the handling of the car will be compromised.
• Repair any damaged wheel rim.
